Let’s Not Think Too Much.
The pendulum of the mind alternates between sense and nonsense, not between right and wrong. (Carl Jung)
With the New Year Fast approaching & the past quickly slipping away, I am receiving many calls for the New Year parties. I am getting bored of reading the New Year party advertisements in papers. I am not really excited with New Year party concepts because it is just like another day for me.
I am surprised to know that at least for just one day my friends are planning from one month & thinking differently to celebrate the New Year with peace, fun & happiness, far away from the busy & hectic schedules. Many friends are thinking about the New Year's resolutions, plans etc.
But inn today’s time it is difficult to experience peace and happiness. Many rich people have air conditioned houses, offices & cars but still they do not enjoy peace of mind. Many cannot sleep without the aid of pills. The restlessness and tensions of the mind have become so uncontrollable and unbearable that some people want to run away from this mad world.
"The mind is its own place, and of itself can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven."
It is interesting to know that brain activity is controlled by currents and chemicals. Brain makes up only 2% of our body weight, but takes 20% of the energy produced. James Allen in his Book "As a Man Thinketh" says Mind is the Master power that moulds and makes, and man is mind and evermore he takes , The tool of thought, and shaping what he wills, brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills. He thinks in secret and it comes to pass. Environment is but his Looking Glass.
A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of his thoughts. Prof William James points out 'The greatest discovery of our age is that man by changing the inner aspects of his thinking can change the outer aspect of his life.
The mind brings all kinds of miseries. Firstly the mind is never in the present, it goes on missing the present. The mind goes on jumping from the past to the future, from the future to the past. It never stays in present. Happiness & sorrow are created by the mind. The mind is like a pendulum, swinging intermittently from happiness to sorrow and back again.
Buddha used to say to his disciples, "Just be balanced, and everything else will become possible of its own accord. Just be in the middle."
Let’s not think too much, Lets welcome the year which is fresh and new, Lets cherish each moment it beholds, let’s celebrate this blissful New Year.
Self Control is strength
Thought is Mastery
Calmness is Power
Say unto yourself "Peace Be Still"
