Bellary Mining Scam - Scam Of The Century.

Image
Will our country ever come out of scams? There is a scam in every single step in this nation. Bhopal Gas Scam, Bofors scams, IPL Scams, Flood relief fund scam etc. From past several weeks the issue of illegal mining in Karnataka has been rocking both the Houses. The political parties have insisted that nothing short of a CBI enquiry would bring out the truth on illegal mining, as it involved inter-state and international operations in view of the large-scale export of iron ore. Last week in Karnataka the opposition political party members stayed in the Assembly overnight, sleeping in the lobby, with no let-up in their demand for a CBI enquiry into what Leader of the Opposition termed a “Rs 20,000 crore scam”. The government, in its reply to a debate on illegal mining in the Assembly admitted that over three crore tonnes of iron ore was illegally shipped from ports of the state in the past seven years, including over one crore tonnes in the last two years. In the legislative Counc...

CWG – Collect Wealth Games ?

Image
Commonwealth Games going by the current state of affairs, it is too much to ask for somebody to be positive about the games. We are left with no choice but to support this mess. Our politician’s don’t have any self respect any way but we common citizens care about our Nation's image in the world. It is very disappointing to read the reports in the print & electronic media about hiring of treadmill for 45 days for a more than double the price of the hired item and purchase of power at Rs.80/ as against market rate of Rs.8/ per unit. Can anyone imagine a treadmill that costs under Rs 1 lakh being hired for Rs 10 lakh for a 45-day period & the list goes on - air conditioners, chairs, tables etc. We are incurring such a huge expenditure on an event that no one really cares about. The CWG has ceased even to be a poor man's Olympics. Lot of money has been poured in to these games. With all these huge expenditures, we could still get a bad name. That would be big tragic. Add...

Meetings - Talk Less & Believe In Actions

Image
A meeting is an event where minutes are taken & hours are wasted (James T. Kirk) I have been attending many meeting professionally & personally from past several weeks. Recently I attended the sixth Meetings Conventions & Events Conclave (MICE) at the Hotel Lalit Ashok ‘Come together in Karnataka’. I am getting bored of meetings, only talks & no actions or implementations. We all have read the talkative tortoise story; this is one of the interesting & inspiring stories from Panchatantra. I remember another very funny but interesting TV serial, Jaspal Bhatti’s Ulta Pulta, where there is a corporate meeting for several hours & after the meeting the concerned authorities are very happy about the outcome & the outcome is the date has been finalized for the next meeting. I am not against meetings but just sitting in a class room we can’t learn swimming unless we jump into the water. There’s a saying, in hard work there is always something gained, but idle t...

Poor in India Need Free Foodgrains

Image
India leads the world in hunger. According to the Global Hunger Index, which is calculated by the International Food Policy Research Institute, India has close to 350 million people who are 'food insecure' -- in other words, who are not sure where their next meal will come from. To put that into context, that is the same as the entire populations of Germany, France and the United Kingdom, all put together. The United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation believes that over 1 billion people will go hungry in 2010. Economywatch.com Dwayne Ramakrishnan wrote, 'Endemic problems such as corruption, poor infrastructure and a lack of access to funds continue to be a problem in India.' The Supreme Court on August 12 asked the Centre to consider free distribution of food grains to the hungry poor of the country instead of allowing it to rot in Food Corporation of India godowns. The Apex Court in an order directed the Union government to conduct a fresh survey of the B...

Babri Masjid - Ram Mandir or Peace & Humanity ?

Image
The path to Heaven is not by faith or worship, but by doing good and avoiding evil. The Babir Masjid / Ram Mandir matter has been a hanging fire for long. The legal dispute started in 1950 but the genesis of the trouble goes as far back as 1528 when Mughal emperor Babar’s lieutenant Mir Baqi built a mosque in Ayodhya. Hindus claim it was built on a temple marking the birthplace of their God Ram. The dispute continued, with communal clashes at times. However, things took a serious turn when some people placed idols of Ram inside the disputed shrine during the night of December 22, 1949. Ever since the Ayodhya dispute has been a saga of communal strife and a point of debate between lawyers and historians. ‘Kar sevaks’ demolished the disputed structure on December 6, 1992, but the controversy surrounding the shrine has refused to die down. The legal dispute surrounding the shrine in Ayodhya may see its denouement very soon. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court will deliver ...

Dear Daughter I will be there always for you

Daughters are gifts given to those who deserve the best. Fourth Sunday in September is Daughters’ Day. A day for all those lovely girls who bring cheer, color and variety into our lives, for me every day is my daughter’s day. It’s really very difficult to think of happiness without pondering when a person was the happiest in their lives. When I did that thinking, it was so easy to recall the two events that have made me the happiest in my life. The first is most definitely the birth of my first son Athar & the other is the birth of my daughter Aleena. Time has passed since they were born and I haven’t forgotten the beautiful moments of their births. There are so many things I want to say and so many thoughts in my mind. I don't know where to start and what to say. I still remember Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin walked on the moon on July 20th, 1969, becoming the first two humans to do so. On July 20th 2009 Almighty gifted me the angel, my daughter Alena; my moon w...

Humanity Is The Biggest Religion

Image
Human beings are facing all different kinds of threats everyday. From disease to poverty, nuclear warfare, unemployment & the list is never ending. Personally I think religion is the biggest threat to humanity. Religion is the perfect excuse to make bad actions look good. A religion is supposed to teach tolerance, love, and respect, but almost every religion has been corrupted in someway at some point in time. It actually comes from something that seems to be good, but unfortunately it is manipulated and used for evil. It has the power to end the world. Religion is the biggest problem with the world today specially in a country like India. There are several better ways to solve the religion issues ideally that would please all, but this is just the dream of an idealist because the realist would not be so sensitive and naïve and would face the problem and take it down. But to save the humanity one has to constantly think of new ways to deal with the religion related problems. ...

Mahatma Gandhi - Icon Of Peace & Nonviolence

Image
Today the world is celebrating the 141st birth day of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation. The UNO has commemorated the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi as a non-violence day. It cannot be denied that Mahatma Gandhi was one of the first to offer a wake-up call to humanity by stressing the philosophy of nonviolence. Mahatma Gandhi taught the world a new method of struggle, political warfare and a new kind of diplomacy. During my school days I was always asking the question to my teachers & friends, Why Was Mahatma Gandhi Never Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize? One of my teacher said, Mahatma Gandhi lives in the hearts of billions of Indians and non-Indians which is the biggest credit earned by him. This is bigger than any award, even Noble Peace Prize. Now I understand those true words of wisdom. After reading lot many books on Indian history & renowned historian’s views all I can understand is Mahatma Gandhi did far more than bring about independence. He revolutionized the po...

Victory Of Good Over Evil

Image
Dussehra is the most popular festival in India. It is celebrated all over India. Dusshera comes from the “Dush” or ten and “Hara” means defeat. The ten headed king Ravan was defeated by lord Rama. From past several years I have been regularly visiting Mysore during Dussehra festival. I am still not able to understand why the effigies of Ravan are burned by the selfish politicians. My questions is when there are so many Ravanas around us whom are we burning? During the Dussehra function in Mysore I was discussing with a scholar regarding the significant of the Dussehra festival. He explained very beautifully, it is the victory of good over evil; one has to hate evil not Ravan. The ten headed king Ravan represents all that is evil. He is the representation of the six negativities in the heart: lust, anger, greed, pride, envy and illusion. He also represents arrogance and imperiousness. The burning effigies of Ravana mean burning all the evil within us. By this we are all asked to b...

Live In The Now

Image
A wise man shall overrule his stars, and have a greater influence upon his own content than all the constellations and planets of the firmament. (Jeremy Taylor) I was in my office; all of a sudden received a call from my friend. He was tensed & wanted to meet me. I invited him for the lunch; he came to my office in the afternoon. I asked him to relax but he was so tensed that he was not ready to listen anything. I was disappointed to know that he was terminated from his job without prior notice. I explained him the basic legal process & give the reference of my advocate. We left to hotel for lunch. Near the hotel a fortune teller was sitting with his parrot. The fortune teller suddenly called my friend & said, sir you are in very big tension. My friend was surprised & he turned back to him. I suggested my friend not believe in fortune teller. Most of the fortune teller does not really know the future. They just predict the future by inducing innocent people to say...
