MCI – Medical Council Of India Or Most Corrupt Institute In India.

Last week we were shocked to know the Bangalore University’s copied & controversial website, but today the news of Medical Council of India president Dr Ketan Desai and two others were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two crore to grant recognition to a medical college in Punjab was more shocking.

According to Times of India reports, Dr Ketan Desai was arrested after the CBI conducted searches at his office here following information that he along with his associate Jitender Pal Singh was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs two crore to recognise a college in Punjab, Dr Desai along with Singh and another associate Dr Kanwaljit Singh of Gyan Sagar Medical College in Punjab have been arrested by CBI on corruption charges. CBI spokesperson Harsh Bahal said.

It reminds me of the famous saying: Power Corrupts; Absolute power Corrupts Absolutely. It is very surprising to know that Dr Ketan Desai never formally taught in the college, he got prestigious Dr B C Roy Award for excellence in teaching medicine. It's very ironic that a person who was trying to enforce ethics in medical practice, himself has been caught in a web of deceit and corruption.

Nine years back, Dr. Desai was charged with similar corruption practices and CBI found disproportionate assets and was removed from chairmanship and today after nine years, again CBI has found him corrupt. This is indeed a sad state of affairs for the medical community and Indians as a whole. Dr Desai occupying such a prestigious post is responsible for corruption charges. It not only jeopardizes the entire health industry of India but also questions the quality of medicine

MCI is under Ministry of Health. The main objectives of the Medical Council include maintenance of uniform standards of medical education and recommendation for recognition/de-recognition of medical qualifications of medical institutions of India or foreign countries.

Unfortunately today many medical colleges are running without proper basic infrastructure, insufficient staff, and quality standard of teaching. Many private colleges run by the politicians are just interested in making money. Meritorious students are suffering without getting admissions in these prestigious institutes.

I will not be wrong to say that MCI corruption is more serious than IPL, because it affects our health & society. Every where corruption is prevailing in India, from the politicians to sportsmen, from Medical Institutes to IIT, from schools to universities .Politicians & concerned authorities are enjoying lavish life and deserving students are suffering.

Sometimes I feel sorry to see poor people are getting killed for small crimes & people like Dr Desai, Lalit Modi, etc are garlanded by the public and politicians. That is why probably it will take many years for India to rise to the level of developed countries.

We are touching new heights of corruption. Corruption and easy money, bribe and scams are becoming very common. It’s good news that Dr Desai has been arrested but till how many days he will remain behind bars. He will also bribe someone, come out and will again start his education business. The problem is much serious. Every Indian will have to fight against deadly disease like corruption. Such acts should not be tolerated.

After reading the news suddenly an idea flashed in my mind, how about handing Dr Desai & his corrupt team officials to the Maoists, because they will decide the corruption issues in few minutes unlike our judicial policies with lot of political intervention which will take years for judgments & finally the cases are closed.
