Festive Seasons Losing It’s Importance
Dear Friends, Wishing u a very happy Makar Sankranti !
May the Makar Sankranti fire burns all the moments of sadness and brings you warmth of joy, happiness and love…
When we were little kids, our grandmother used to say that earlier festivals in India were celebrated for seasonal changes and happenings, to celebrate the importance of Mother Nature, to develop harmony among people, and to restore the faith in God and humanity. But now these very values for which we had festivals are slowly disappearing.
The basic ideology behind celebrating festivals is to bring people of different customs and traditions under one roof and to reinforce unity in the society. It is the time to share love and happiness with the unprivileged people and to spread the message of fraternity and peace. But the recent trends have changed, people have become more materialistic and their minds are fixed at the thought that the onset of festivals means shopping, preparing delicious food, having fun and going out for picnics or movies. It is very unfortunate to say that we are celebrating festivals and religious ceremonies without any zest. We have lost all the enthusiasm associated with festivals.
Festivals had a lot of warmth and purity earlier, but today they are probably the most commercialized event in India. Today it’s surprising to see that in the business world gifts are exchanged only between corporate and business partners. Many People are being very selective about giving gifts, restricting them to only those selected people for selfish reasons.
Further the modern hectic life styles have changed the meaning of festivals. Some of my friends pray & hope that the festival falls on a Monday or Friday so that they can get away for weekend. It seems like festivals are just another set of words for holidays.
One should understand & believe that festivals bring along with them faiths, beliefs, culture & help to preserve customs. Festivals are significant and bring people of various sects, castes and classes nearer to each other, let’s celebrate in their own ways. We should take the festivals for building up the love and the harmony amongst people, rather than spending lavishly. Festivals are the symbol of Indian culture, ethics and values, and so in order in preserve our identity we should maintain the sanctity of the festivals.
